Peak season:
Book cheap flights to Brussels, the headquarters of the European Union and NATO, and home to one of Europe’s most beautiful town squares, Grand Place. Belgium’s cosmopolitan capital is a melting pot of citizens with a fascinating mix of origins including: Flemish, Walloon, Italian, Spanish, English and German. Culture vultures arrive on flights to Brussels to enjoy the Musées Royaux Des Beaux-Arts, with its priceless collection of Flemish and Belgian art; while beer lovers will want to visit the Cantillon Brewery, a family brewery where Lambic, Gueuze, Faro and Kriek beers are made. Shoppers and sweet tooths should venture a little south of the centre to the area of Sablon, a haven for boutiques, antiques, jewellery and highbrow master chocolate makers. Perhaps the best-known attraction in Belgium is Manneken Pis.This statue of a little boy urinating has a wardrobe of more than 700 costumes including Father Christmas and Elvis Presley suits. Summer is the peak of the tourist season in Brussels and you can expect crowds of visitors and long queues outside the main attractions. Cheap flights to Brussels are hard to come by in summer so book flight tickets in advance if you’re planning to visit in these months.
Off season:
You can find the cheapest flights to Brussels from November to March. The winter season has wet and chilly weather and short days. January is generally the wettest month, and temperatures range from 0C to 10C during this period. You’ll be able find discounted hotels but some restaurants and shops may be closed.

If weather is an important factor for your trip to Brussels, use this chart to help with planning. For those seeking warmer temperatures, July is the ideal time of year to visit, when temperatures reach an average of 17.0 C. Travellers hoping to avoid the cold should look outside of January, when temperatures are typically at their lowest (around 3.0 C).
The best time to book flights to Brussels are the shoulder seasons between March and May and September and October. This is when room rates drop and fewer crowds clog the top attractions. If you prefer warmer weather, summer temperatures can reach the high-20Cs and the sun doesn’t set until 9pm or 10pm. August won’t be any cheaper price wise for accommodation but many Belgians take their holidays then so Brussels may be quieter to visit. Summer is also the time for a smorgasbord of festivals and events so if you plan on attending then search for flight tickets early.

45 minute flight delay. Gate agent in Athens had poor communication skills which made the wait more stressful. Updates from Aegean via email were late.

A small, secondary airport for Belgium’s capital city, Brussels Charleroi Airport (CRL) is mostly served by budget carriers (it is, famously, one of Ryanair’s bases) connecting to popular holiday destinations on the Iberian Peninsula and in Eastern Europe, including Barcelona, Madrid, Faro, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Budapest, Prague, Sofia, Warsaw and Belgrade. There are a few connections to France and destinations in North Africa as well. A new terminal was built in 2008; however, the airport is already operating above its five million passenger capacity.
While flights to Brussels Charleroi Airport may be a few euros cheaper, complaints of unreliable public parking and transport, limited shopping and dining, and poor service chase many passengers to the larger Brussels International Airport in Zaventem. As Charleroi Airport is situated 46km (29 miles) out of town (45 minutes from Brussels City Centre), you’ll want to have your transport into Brussels arranged with certainty, as taxi rides get expensive very quickly.
While it doesn’t come recommended as a layover airport, Brussels Charleroi is a popular budget option for holiday makers looking to sample the delights of Brussels and Prague, or en route to a holiday on the Costa del Sol.
