January and February bring high spirits to the area as cultural festivals take to the streets, rolling right on through April. That doesn’t mean that May to August are not good months to visit Gdansk, though. Tourists may try to book their trips in early May in order to have the best chance of finding their own spot on Gdansk’s beaches. From May through August, peak travel season brings high airfare and crowds to the city. If you are a festival go-er, make sure to book flights to Gdansk for Poland’s best music event, the Heineken Opener Festival, comes to the city in July and stages performances from huge international music names such as Coldplay. The festival entertains revelers for four spectacular days with a variety of music, fashion, art and much more.

The Tricity of Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia is well known for its rich and magnificent culture along the Baltic Coast in Poland. As the capital of Pomerania, Gdansk is a major seaport of Poland. The city has been an important one throughout history, most notably when it was the first battle site during the German invasion of Poland that sparked World War II.
Standing in the midst of the Motlawa River, Gdansk’s Old Town embodies the rich cultural history of the city. Colorful buildings are raised along long streets and historic city gates, with the most notable street undoubtedly being Royal Road. This car-free zone is a pedestrian-friendly jaunt where visitors can immerse themselves in the architectural beauty of Gdansk’s historic assets.
The history of the city is also on full display at sites like The Hall of the Main city, the Tower Clocks Museum and the aptly named Gdansk History Museum. Architecture buffs shouldn’t miss the plethora of churches that dot the city, either.
One of the best ways to unwind in Gdansk come the warmer months is by laying a towel on the beach and enjoying the sights and sounds of the Baltic Sea. Of the beaches in the area, Stogi Beach remains a local and tourist favorite for its wide expanses and soft sand.
Visitors will be glad to know that the city’s centre compact enough that almost everything is accessible by foot. Public transportation is readily and frequently available to get around the city, with trams and buses being the best way to roam around. Cars are also available to hire but this is an expensive option.
Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport (GDN) serves flights to Gdansk and is located less than 8 miles (12km) northwest of the city centre. There are two main ways to approach the city from the airport: by the public bus system, which connects travelers to Gdansk from the airport, and by taxi, many of which can be found and hired at the airport. Keep in mind, though, that visitors are usually wary of the high taxi fares.
