Peak season:
Gerona is a city which doesn’t overly rely on tourism; as such, it tends to be busy most of the year. That said, the busiest periods run from around April to September so you’ll need to secure your flight tickets in advance to have a chance of finding cheap flights to Gerona then. The peak of summer tends to be July and August, however a lot of locals escape to the coast or on their own vacations to cool down and avoid the heat so some places might be closed. June also hosts Saint John’s Eve festival, which will make flights to Gerona a lot more expensive, as will the Festival of Saint Narcis, usually held around the end of October. If you are planning to visit these, or any other events or festivals, make sure you secure your flight tickets well in advance to avoid over-paying.
Off season:
You’ll find the cheapest flights to Girona during the off season which typically runs from December to early March. Temperatures can be quite mild although occasionally you’ll see temperatures drop below 0 which can make a sunny getaway less appealing. You’ll also find much cheaper accommodation during the off season and with the noticeable lack of tourists, you can get a better idea of the culture of the city.

If weather is an important factor for your trip to Costa Brava, use this chart to help with planning. For those seeking warmer temperatures, August is the ideal time of year to visit, when temperatures reach an average of 24.0 C. Travellers hoping to avoid the cold should look outside of January, when temperatures are typically at their lowest (around 9.0 C).
You’ll find cheap flights to Gerona are harder to come by from July to December, although prices do tend to fluctuate slightly. You can find good deals though if you secure your flight tickets in advance and avoid the peak times and festivals. December can provide cheap flights to Gerona if you visit in the first week or two of the month. As Christmas approaches you’ll notice flight tickets becoming increasingly expensive. Once you’ve decided when you want to visit, aim to secure your flight tickets 2 or 3 months in advance to find the cheapest flights to Gerona. If you do book in advance you can find flights for as little as £15 one way, making travelling there an absolute bargain. Both sides of the plane should offer you stunning views of the Pyrenees Mountains although the left-hand side does sometimes provide a slightly clearer view.

The journey was good on the whole. We had bikes with us so the dedicated oversize luggage lane at PMI was welcome. The flight was great, staff friendly as always. The only thing that lets down the return flight is the immigration at BHX. The separate area used by Jet2 is far too slow, I think we queued there for over an hour compared to generally going straight through or a 5 minute wait with other operators in the main facility at BHX. I know you will say that it's the responsibility of the airport, Home Office etc, but you really need to apply pressure to get this sorted out.
