Most of the many festivals which take place in the city occur during the summer months between June and September, so most music and sports fans take a flight to Syracuse during these months. However, with skiing and other winter events on offer, a trip around Christmas or in January might appeal just as much. February is a great time to go, and finds the town celebrating Winterfest – a lively collection of events. With all year round events happening both outdoor and indoor it becomes harder to find cheap flights to Syracuse.

Nicknamed the “heart of New York State”, Syracuse is a charming city with a welcoming character and plenty of indoor and outdoor attractions for visitors to enjoy.
Once you have booked your flight to Syracuse make sure you visit the museums, a highlight of any visit to Syracuse. Learn about the construction of the Erie Canal or about science at the WonderWorks exhibit. Or check out the unique collection at the Museum of International Masks and Puppets.
The city has an excellent zoo which houses animals as diverse as tigers, elephants and reindeer, and is sure to keep children and adults enthralled. And there are other light entertainment options as well, such as indoor and outdoor biking at the Cranx Center or one of America’s oldest (and most beautiful) miniature golf courses at Fairmount Glen.
Syracuse is also one of the cultural hubs of New York State, with theatres and classical music from Symphony Syracuse some of the regular attractions. But the great cultural draw will be the town’s many festivals. Time a visit to coincide with the Nationals Car Show, the New York State Blues Festival or the New York State Fair to enjoy food, drink and entertainment.
For even more excitement, New York City is also a short drive or train journey away from Syracuse – and hosts some world-class attractions. Head to Madison Square Gardens, Yankee Stadium, the Museum of Modern Art or stroll around Greenwich Village.
There are also great outdoor activities to engage in near Syracuse. Try ice-skating at open-air rinks between December and February, head up Labrador Mountain to descend the ski slopes or enjoy a day spent fishing beside one of New York State’s many streams.
Syracuse is most easily navigated by car, and has a simple to follow grid system. Pick up a map and explore, but remember that sometimes roads can switch from two way to one way quite abruptly. The local bus service provides good coverage. When changing buses though, be sure to ask the driver for a transfer ticket, and check out discounts for children and seniors.
All flights to Syracuse land at Hancock International Airport to the city centre is simplest by car. Take Interstate 81 directly to Syracuse to avoid any confusion. Renting a car also makes it easier to explore the countryside around town or to make a trip to New York. Public transport does not service the airport, so taxis are another option. Save money by taking a taxi to the Regional Transportation Center and catching a bus into town.
