Also known as the City of Roses, Windsor is Canada’s southernmost city and a growing tourist hot spot thanks to its warm summers and natural beauty. With around 180 parks and 40 miles (64 km) of trails, the city is a popular travel destination for those looking to find some rest and relaxation. The expansive waterfront brings in visitors and locals alike thanks to its stretching views of Detroit and numerous well kept recreational gardens. A notable attraction on the waterfront is the Sculpture Park which can easily be found if you take a stroll along the shores between the Ambassador bridge (which links the city to Detroit) and the Art Gallery. Here you will find 31 modern and post-modern sculptures designed by world famous artists. Another popular point of interest is Windsor’s Little Italy, or ‘Via Italia’. Located on Erie Street, Via Italia is a bustling network of cafes, restaurants, specialist clothing shops and gift stores – well worth a visit for those interested in Windsor’s eclectic culture. No travel guide could be complete, however, without mentioning the city centre’s club scene. Caesars is renowned for being one of the largest casinos in Canada, yet if the roulette wheel doesn’t appeal why not enjoy the various other forms of entertainment on offer such as the various bars and nightclubs.
With most of the city’s sightseeing opportunities accessible by foot, getting around the city and exploring its many attractions is no problem for those who enjoy strolling and taking in the view. If you’re planning to stay in the centre and take in the main hub of activity, then the city’s transport system has a few good routes if your feet start to tire. However, for those wishing to venture to all of Windsor’s iconic sites and possibly explore Detroit too, then renting a car would be advisory for convenience and expense.
