Peak Season:
June kicks off the peak travel season in Jacksonville, which generally runs through till the end of August. The city experiences increased tourism during these months thanks to the warm, sunny weather (temperatures frequently rise to the low 30s Celsius) and visitors wanting to spend their time along the Jacksonville Beaches. Expect to see lots of families taking advantage of the summer holiday period. As this is a popular time, flights to Jacksonville and accommodation rates tend to be more expensive. It is advised to book in advance to ensure availability and get a better deal.
Off Season:
The months of December through February bring the coldest weather to the city, but even so, temperatures remain around 10 to 16 degrees Celsius. Cheap flights to Jacksonville can be found during this season, which can be a good time to visit, as long as the beaches aren’t on your list of must-dos. Why not spend your holiday exploring the city’s museums and historic attractions instead?
Shoulder Season:
The shoulder seasons are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Spring temperatures are very varied, from around 27 degrees on warm days and in the low teens on chillier days. Temperatures are more pleasant in autumn, usually around 21 to 32 degrees Celsius, although nights become cool. Both these periods experience fewer crowds so it can be a great time to visit. Prices for flights to Jacksonville and hotel rates are also usually cheaper. An exception to this is during mid-May when the golf championships take place.

It was weird that we had to check after security and go to a corral which had no bathroom or other services about an hour before boarding. Had to check out of the corral to leave and check back in.

There’s no doubt that Florida’s charms are many. From amusement parks and non-stop nightlife to beaches and wildlife reserves, Florida is a state with a destination for every type of traveller. Those who love big city life, oceanfront views and a healthy dose of culture will find a flight to Jacksonville very appealing.
As the largest city by area in the continental U.S., Jacksonville packs a big punch. Towering skyscrapers define the skyline of this oceanfront city, but it’s worth starting a day in Jacksonville early to catch the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean. From there, travellers can explore the historic Riverside neighbourhood, where some of the city’s oldest architecture and funkiest shops await, and the St. Johns River for which the neighbourhood was named.
A wealth of museums also greets visitors to Jacksonville. Art, in particular, is plentiful. The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens and the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville are two popular choices for an afternoon of art appreciation, as is the weekly Riverside Arts Market, which is filled with works by local artists.
Perhaps surprising for a major city is the amount of natural beauty that can be found in and around Jacksonville. From the miles of beaches just outside the city proper to the pristine riverfronts and numerous urban parks, visitors will find ample opportunity to enjoy the natural side of Jacksonville during their holiday. Plus, the city has a thriving nightlife scene with plenty of bars and clubs to enjoy as night falls on Jacksonville.
Jacksonville boasts the largest area of any city in the continental U.S., so walking is not a viable option to getting around the city. Public buses connect riders with destinations throughout the city, but there are typically long waits between buses. The Skyway monorail shuttles riders throughout central Jacksonville, but for travellers venturing beyond the city centre, renting a car is the most convenient option for getting around.
The city is serviced by Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), which is about 15 miles (24 km) from the centre of Jacksonville. Buses connect passengers with the city, and taxis are also available for hire. Car rental agencies are also onsite.
Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is conveniently located just 21km (13 miles) north of Jacksonville, on Florida’s sunny north Atlantic coast.
The airport is easy to navigate as it consists of one terminal with two concourses (A and C). A third concourse is planned for the airport, but will only be operational after 2013. The airport is also used by the Florida Air National Guard, so keep an eye out for some impressive military jets.
Jacksonville Airport is used by most North American airlines. Many airports across the United States, such as those in Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Baltimore, Chicago, Washington and New York are connected to Jacksonville International Airport.
With loads of shops and eateries, there’s always a lot to do at the airport. Jacksonville International Airport even has an art gallery and live music performances during peak travel seasons. It’s the perfect gateway to the sun-kissed beaches of northern Florida.
